Amy Poehler is the idol, role model, person I respected and wished I had around for all the times in my childhood when I could hear crickets when asked to “write about someone you admire.” I always wondered how all the other kids in my class seemed to have…heros? It was weird to me. Then I found Poehler and her body of work and I was like, “I get it. Everything about this woman is what I look up to and aspire to live by.” I didn’t go back and change my old essays about Amelia Earhart or anything, but I did wonder how my life would have been different if I had felt her enthusiasm for comedy, feminism and her commitment to doing things that make the world more interesting and just better, earlier in my life. C’est la vie, I have her example now to live by at least. And I have the holiday she single-handedly created, Galentine’s Day! Put simply, ovaries before boy-varies. I love my girlfriends no matter the miles between us. I have learned so much from them, been inspired by them, and laughed so much with them that rose has snorted out of my nose more than once. Everywhere I have lived I have been lucky enough to find the best batch of women in town, and most definitely, my gals deserve a holiday every day!
These pinata rose bottle cookies are just waiting to come out of covid hiding. They use the dyed sugar cookie dough from this blog, and a template for a bottle found here. The call out for a glass of bubbly rose and gossip, support, and gal time. The notes inside can be notes of encouragement, inside jokes or just golden girls quotes. So the second we can celebrate together, not over zoom, but really together, I can think of a few besties that I can’t wait to share these cookies with, Galentine’s Day will be everyday!
